This length of box section is extruded from polypropylene (PP) polymer and measures 50mm width across the face and has a wall thickness of 4mm.

Polypropylene General Characteristics
Polypropylene resists attack from most chemicals, including alkali detergents and it is corrosion resistant. It is non-toxic and many grades are approved for use in contact with foodstuffs. Although PP is the hardest and stiffest polyolefine it suffers from high creep, poor UV resistance and rapid oxidisation in contact with copper. It will withstand repeated steam cleaning and is, by the nature of the material, non-stick. Polypropylene will withstand impacts much better than PVC, but impact strength drops dramatically at freezing temperatures.

Fabrication
Polypropylene has good mechanical strength and easily formed and constructed by sawing, drilling, hot air welding.
Polypropylene is highly resistant to solvents and cannot be joined with solvent based cements. Hot air welding or fusion teqhniques should be used.

Applications:
The polypropylene box section is useful to help provide structural support. In industry, it is often seen used on tanks and vats.
