MARKERS FOR PIPES THAT CARRY NON-
POTABLE
WATER
DERIVED ANY SOURCE NOT
FROM THE PUBLIC MAINS
AND NOT
USED IN FIREFIGHTING SYSTEMS
Pipe marking is a UK legal requirement. UK Pipes must be marked in accordance with BS1710 (2014); to be legally compliant. If you wish to understand more please see our guide on British Standard Pipe Marking.
Our premium pipe marking rolls are designed to be compliant with BS1710 and have all the required information completely integrated into a single self adhesive label roll. Each roll contains the direction of flow, textual description, and colour coding as laid out in the British Standards.
Our BS1710 Pipe Coding rolls are designed so that the label can be oriented in any direction to indicate flow and text will still be right-readable.
We use high quality vinyl and laminate for extra protection and longevity - the white gloss polymeric vinyl that we use, has been specifically engineered to adhere to LSE (low surface energy) substrates and/or substrates with a low surface temperature. It is designed to last for up to 8 Years outdoors under normal atmospheric conditions.
Choosing the correct colour coded label
• The green
label
denotes that this pipe is carrying water.
• The grey
band
signifies that it is NOT
sourced from the main public
supply.
• The absence of red
band
means that this is NOT
for use in Fire Fighting Systems.
•
The black band
denotes that this water is NOT
potable.
If ALL
of the above match your intended use then this label is correctly colour coded for your purpose.
Label Material Technical Data

Choosing correct size and quantity
BS 1710 Standards stipulate the size of colour banding labels based on the diameter of pipe. To be legally compliant you must choose the correct size.
Pipe Diameters Less than
50mm= 130mm Banding Label Width
Pipe Diameters 50mm - 100mm =
275mm Banding Label Width
Pipe Diameters Over 100mm= 450mm Banding Label Width
Make sure you identify all the positions in your piping system at which you will need to apply a pipe marker and note the pipe's diameters. Using the pipe diameter; work out the circumference by multiplying by 3.14. This is how much of the pipe marking roll is required to go around the pipe at each labelling point, this can then be multiplied by the amount points that require labelling.
