BS1710 Premium 8 Year Outdoor Pipe Marking Roll - Mains Derived | Potable Water
MARKERS FOR PIPES THAT CARRY POTABLE WATER DERIVED FROM THE PUBLIC MAINS
Pipe marking is a UK legal requirement. UK Pipes must be marked to be legally compliant. Marking in accordance with BS1710 (2014) is the most widely recognised standard in the UK and ensures you meet the requirement; If you wish to understand more please see our Guide on BS1710 British Standard Pipe Marking.
Our premium pipe marking rolls are designed to be compliant with BS1710 and have all the required information completely integrated into a single self adhesive label roll. Each roll contains the direction of flow, textual description, and colour coding as laid out in the British Standards.
Our BS1710 Pipe Coding rolls are designed so that the label can be oriented in any direction to indicate flow and text will still be right-readable.
We use high quality vinyl and laminate for extra protection and longevity - the white gloss polymeric vinyl that we use, has been specifically engineered to adhere to LSE (low surface energy) substrates and/or substrates with a low surface temperature. It is designed to last for up to 8 Years outdoors under normal atmospheric conditions.
We offer rolls with no text or arrows and just the colour coding bands. This allows you to custom print your own text & arrow labels for your own specific needs. Be aware that these rolls will not be compliant to BS1710 by themselves; you absolutely must show flow direction and mark the text as laid out in the BS1710 standards.
Bespoke Text: If the text you require is not available; choose 'Bespoke Text' in the drop down menu and tell us your exact required text in the order comments as you check out.
Choosing the correct colour coded label
• The green
label
denotes that this pipe is carrying water.
• The blue
band
signifies that it is sourced from the public mains
supply.
• The absence
of a red band
means that it DOES
NOT
form part of a fire fighting system
•
The absence
of a black band
denotes that this water is potable.
If ALL
of the above match your intended use then this label is correctly colour coded for your purpose.
If not then please see alternative colour coding below.

Choosing correct size and quantity
BS 1710 Standards stipulate the size of colour banding based on the diameter of pipe. To be legally compliant you must choose the correct size.
Pipe Diameters Less than
50mm= 130mm Banding Label Width
Pipe Diameters 50mm - 100mm =
275mm Banding Label Width
Pipe Diameters Over 100mm= 450mm Banding Label Width
Make sure you identify all the positions in your piping system at which you will need to apply a pipe marker and note the pipe's diameters. Using the pipe diameter; work out the circumference by multiplying by 3.14. This is how much of the pipe marking roll is required to go around the pipe at each labelling point, this can then be multiplied by the amount points that require labelling.
